Things You Need to Know About Acne Treatments

Acne treatments come and go, as they say, in all shapes and sizes. There is no such thing as a miracle cure for acne, and not all acne treatments are created equal.

Most acne medications are found in drug stores. They usually come in two forms, and each form is meant to do something specific. No matter what you choose, it’s a good idea to wash your face as these treatments don’t include cleansers. After using the treatment, be sure to moisturize your face with a solution that doesn’t clog the pores. The first medication is a cream usually meant to dry the skin. This is helpful for people who have especially oily skin.

The drying affect draws out extra oil in the pimples and the skin, but it can overdo it and leave skin feeling flaky and dry.

Another option is a medicine with an alcohol base. These are mostly astringents, but a couple are not. The alcohol cuts the oil in the skin and also serves as an antibacterial that deals directly with the infection causing the pimples. When the alcohol evaporates, the cut oil goes with it. The only drawback is that these often sting upon application, and some will require cotton swabs or balls to apply the medicine and hold excess dirt and oil.

The next way to cure acne is to buy an entire line of products that serve as an acne solution. Usually, a line such as this will include a gentle cleanser, a face mask which serves as a cleanser and exfoliant, a facial toner which is mostly alcohol based, and a clog free moisturizer. The line may also include sun block and cosmetic remover, though these agents may be included as part of the cleanser and moisturizer.

These solutions are often expensive because they require the use of the entire line for full affect. These products are often of better quality because they’re not only meant to cure acne, they’re also meant to improve the overall look and feel of the skin. More natural versions of this line are often preferable because they’re less harsh, and, let’s face it, they smell better. Unfortunately, they also cost more. Either way, if you’re concerned about the overall look of your skin, consider a solution in place of an over-the-counter medication.

Speaking of natural remedies, acne does have some natural cures found in your own home. First and foremost, washing your face with a gentle soap is a great way to cure and prevent acne. Of course, there are some pretty interesting acne home remedies. For example, try crushing an orange peel and combining with water to form a paste. Apply the paste to pimples, leave it there for a few minutes, and then rinse it off.

Another similar option is to make a face mask of clove. Wear it overnight and remove it in the morning. Finally, some crushed garlic over pimples will serve as an antibacterial and clear the infection from the skin. Again, it’s a good idea to rinse it off when you’re finished.

Acne treatments are everywhere, and you have lots of choices. Read labels carefully, and consult a physician or dermatologist if you have any questions.
